Beedledup

Getting there…

Cross country from Karridale to Beedledup took us away from the coast for the first time on this trip. There is not a lot of access to the coast, so we drove pretty much straight through, arriving mid afternoon. We got a bit lost getting from the Reception to our unit (how does that happen???), but eventually found our little home for the next 4 nights, at the end of the block of very special suites on stilts literally built in the lake. This is a really special place, and we loved our time here.

RAC Karri Valley Resort

On arrival I was greeted by a Dragonfly, then we took a walk out to the dam wall and returned for a delicious dinner at the on-site Restraunt (which we frequented for almost every meal. Make sure you book ahead!)

Beedledup Falls and nature trails

From our accommodation, you can walk directly into the National Park, full of huge Karri Gums and dense flora. We hiked up to the walk-through tree, and on to the Falls, returning via a loop trail that ends up on the far side of the lake from our accommodation. Despite threating to rain on us all morning, we only got a few sprinkles, which was perfect.

Around the resort

This resort apparently started it’s commercial existance as a fishing lake, seeded with Trout and other fish that people used to like to try to catch. For a time it was owned by “The Orange People” before being taken over by RAC. RAC have since installed a lot of infrastructure to provide all the services that are needed to run this site, have built more cabins up into the hills behind the main resort and opened a large campground on the other side of the highway (which is how we got lost… cross highway, enter site… how hard can it get… – we took the wrong road on the other side of the highway and strangely it looked nothing like the map).

Farewell…

Sadly we had to leave this little secluded paradise. Goodbye feathered friends who loved visiting us by air and sea.
